Our hearts are heavy with sadness and grief as we share the passing of lifelong Johnston resident Anthony DiChiara, 60, on Sunday, May 4, 2025. Anthony was the son of Elaine and the late Anthony “Andor” DiChiara.

Music was a big part of Anthony’s life from a young age. As a talented musician, he played both acoustic and electric guitar. He appreciated all genre of music and was a big fan of the Beatles.

Anthony saw the world through a camera lens. Whether he was photographing a wedding, a portrait or a slice of nature, life for Anthony held an array of never-ending subjects which he memorialized through his photographs. He had a an endless thirst for knowledge and an astonishing memory for dates, events, inventions, history, people and more.

Anthony lived his life driven by a deep faith, love of God and a strict moral compass.  He was an amazingly strong individual. Throughout his long and heroic battle with cancer, Anthony never gave up hope. He was always kind and appreciative towards everyone who assisted him.

A heartfelt thank you to Dr. Howard Safran, chief of hematology/oncology at the Brown University Health Cancer Institute at the Miriam Hospital. He and his staff worked tirelessly to give Anthony the highest quality of care possible, and Anthony was sincerely grateful for their time and dedication.

To Dr. Andrew Krane: Your support and personal commitment to Anthony was unparalleled. Thank you for going above and beyond in caring for him and for your friendship.

To the nurses in the infusion center at the Brown University Health Cancer Institute at the Miriam Hospital including Meghan, Faye and especially his nurse, Jenna, who became known affectionately as his ‘little sister,’ a warm thank you to you all. Your kindness and compassion helped Anthony through some of his darkest days. You are all living angels.

A sincere thank you to everyone who offered care, comfort and peace to Anthony at the HopeHealth Hulitar Hospice Center during his last weeks especially Dr. Christine Nevins-Hebert. May her kindness and compassion for her patients never run dry.

Anthony will be most remembered for his kindness towards others, his generous spirit and his smile. He was a friend to everyone and will be greatly missed by all that had the privilege of knowing him especially his family.

He leaves behind his mother, Elaine DiChiara of Johnston, his sister, Diane Ames, (Matthew) of Smithfield, his brother John DiChiara (Cheryl) of Smithfield, nieces Sarah-Beth (Christopher) and Jordyn, nephew Evan and great-nephews Matthew and Christopher.

In honoring Anthony’s wishes, services were respectfully omitted and burial was private. Please keep Anthony in your prayers and in your heart.
