Anthony M. "Tony" DiPace, 62, of Enfield, entered into eternal peace on Saturday, Jan. 22, 2022, at his home, after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born on Jan. 19, 1960, in Hartford, the son of the late Concetto and Angela DiPace. After the untimely death of his mother in 1963, Tony was raised by Wee and Rose Crowley in Enfield, where he remained a longtime resident. He was a member of the Class of '78 at Fermi High School and later graduated at the top of his class from the United Technical School in Springfield. Tony was an ASE Certified Master Mechanic and owned and operated his own automotive business, Hazardville Motors in Enfield for 34 years. His greatest enjoyment in life was spending his free time with his son. Tony still found the time to dedicate 40 years to the Enfield Democratic Town Committee. He also served as chairman of the committee and was a member of various town boards, commissions, and committees, including serving as chairman of the Enfield Planning & Zoning Commission. On Oct. 16, 2021, he received The William "Red" Edger Jr. "Democrat of the Year" Award for his dedicated service to the town of Enfield. He was also an active supporter of youth sports in the Enfield community, sponsoring several teams in the Enfield Youth Basketball League and the Hazardville Little League and on several occasions, serving as a coach. He also volunteered in the concession stands at Fermi and Enfield High School football games. Tony was a communicant of St. Patrick Church and a longtime member of the Mount Carmel Society in Enfield.
He is survived by his beloved son, Anthony and his dear friend, Lindsey. He also leaves his brothers and sisters, Carl DiPace of Charleston, South Carolina, Angela Valente of Westerly, Rhode Island, Valerie Norris, Patrick Crowley and his wife, Barbara, Thomas Stevens, Darrell Crowley and his wife, Kathy, Kevin Crowley and his wife, Agnes, all of Enfield, Cheryl Crowley and her husband, Frank, of Windsor Locks, Roy Crowley of East Windsor, Benji Ortiz and his wife, Lisa, of Fort Smith, Arizona, Robert Ortiz of Salem North Carolina, and Sandra Pouliot of East Windsor; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Frances Coro, wife of Robert Coro of Enfield; and most recently by his sister, Carol DiPace Greene of Chicago.
A special thanks to his brother Pat and his wife Barbara, who were a tremendous help to during his illness. He was extremely grateful to Elizabeth Davis for organizing a fundraiser and appreciative of the overwhelming love and support that he received from friends and family.
Relatives and friends are invited to join the family for calling hours on Wednesday, Jan. 26, from 4 to 7 p.m., at Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Road, Enfield. A procession will gather at the funeral home at 9 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 27, for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at St. Patrick Church, 64 Pearl St., Enfield, at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at St. Patrick's King Street Cemetery.
