Anthony Waddell Hickson Sr. was born on November 27, 1944, in Jacksonville, Florida to Cleasie Mae Hickson and Edward Hickson Sr. Anthony (Tony) was one of five children. Tony attended Northwestern Junior/Senior High School and was active in football and track and field. Following graduation from Northwestern, Tony attended
Tennessee State University in Nashville Tennessee. In August 1963, he joined the United States Air Force until 1967. Tony joined the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office (JSO) in 1967 where he served for 27 years. Along with his father, Edward Hickson Sr, they became the first African – American father/son officers to serve at the same time. At JSO, Tony started in Patrol, worked in Undercover Narcotics, then in Homicide as a Detective. During his time at JSO Tony received numerous awards, achievements and accolades due to his exemplary service. Following retirement, he worked at the Medical Examiner's Office.
Tony was an avid music lover. Jimmie Hendrix and Prince being some of his favorite music artists. He loved to dance, watch TV, and play cards and numbers. Tony loved his family dearly. He loved to vacation and spend time with his wife. He was very proud and often bragged on his children and grandchildren.
Tony was preceded in death by Cleasie Mae Hickson (mother), Edward Hickson Sr. (father), Edward Hickson Jr. (brother), Annette Andrews (sister), Leila Hickson Boatright (sister).
Tony is survived by his loving wife of 35 years: Regina Ashley Hickson; his children: Anthony Hickson Jr., Tynese Breaux (David), Tiffany Hickson, Joey Hickson (LaShanda), Tanya Hickson, and Shannon Hickson; Grandchildren: Christopher Allen,Kendall Breaux, Larry Fullwood Jr., Ashyia Hickson, Kelsey Breaux; Great-grandchild:Milaya Manning; Sister: Cleasie Hickson; Aunt: Vivan Porter; Sisters-In-Law: Deloris Glee (Thomas), Pamela Bell-Person, Ruth Hickson; a host of numerous godchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
