Anthony J. Mattesi passed away on January 7, 2024, at Montefiore Einstein Hospital in New Rochelle, He was years old. Born on September 1,1934 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He was one of 3 children.
While serving in the U.S. Army and stationed on Fort Slocum (David’s Island) he met and fell in love with Gloria Veltri of New Rochelle. They married on June 16,1957 at St. Joseph’s Church in New Rochelle and celebrated at the Beach &Tennis Club in New Rochele. They raised their 3 children in New Rochelle. Michael, Nancy (Mattesi) Paganico and Glorianne Mattesi.
Anthony worked for Con Edison for 41 years as a Foreman. He had a strong work ethic and loved his job. He always made sure family came first and always enjoyed spending time surrounded by family and friends. He enjoyed ocean cruises and trips to Bermuda and Italy. He was extremely handy and was always available to help his young nieces and nephews around their homes. He was an active parishioner at St Joseph Church and attended the 7:30 am mass every Sunday. He was a Pittsburgh Steeler fan. He enjoyed listening to Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Sammy Davis, Jr.
Anthony will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, friend, and neighbor. He will be dearly missed; however his family finds comfort in the many treasured memories he leaves behind.
Anthony is survived by his wife, Gloria and his son Michael, his wife Lydia, daughter Nancy, her husband Anthony, and daughter Glorianne.
Anthony will be missed by his grandchildren Anthony, Dana, husband David, Dylan, Justin and Madison and his great grandson Luca.
He will also be missed by his sister Dolores Vasto. He is predeceased by his mother Nancy, his father Frank, and his brother Peter Mattesi.
With gratitude and appreciation to Anthony's medical doctor, Vincenzo A Cirillo. We consider him a dear friend. Always available day and night for our family's needs. Thank you Dr. Cirillo for all your support during this painful time.
To our wonderful New Rochelle Fire Department, we thank you for your kindness and professionalism during the many calls to our home.
A special thank you to a very caring and compassionate person, Carolina Puga. She took such good care of Anthony. He looked forward to seeing her every day.
A celebration of Anthony's life will take place at the Pelham Funeral Home located at 64 Lincoln Ave., Pelham NY on January 10, 2024, from 3:00-7:00 pm.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, located at 280 Washington Ave, New Rochelle NY 10801. Interment will follow at Greenwood Union Cemetery, Rye, NY.
