Hilda Torres of New Rochelle, New York, passed away peacefully on November 7, 2025, at the age of 79.
Born in Fajardo, Puerto Rico. At the age of 14, Hilda and her parents emigrated to New York, where she began a new life while always keeping Puerto Rico close to her heart. She cherished her childhood memories there and returned often to visit family and friends.
Hilda attended Washington Irving High School while living on Southern Boulevard in the South Bronx. In her youth, she loved to dance and later went on to study business after graduating.
At 20 years old, Hilda met the love of her life, David, on a blind date. The two married a year later at Immaculate Conception of Mary Church, in the Bronx and celebrated their wedding reception at her family home on Southern Boulevard. They built a beautiful life together, raising their two children, Angela and David, first in the Bronx and later in New Rochelle, where they moved in the 1990s.
Hilda enjoyed a long and successful career in Human Resources at Bronx Lebanon Hospital. Outside of work, she lived life to the fullest—reading, traveling the world, and, of course, dancing to her beloved salsa music. She visited destinations across China, Europe, South America, and Hawaii, but her heart always led her back to Puerto Rico, her favorite place, and to London, another of her cherished spots.
She was known for her strength, independence, and unwavering loyalty. Fierce, loving, and deeply devoted to her family, Hilda was the foundation upon which her loved ones could always rely. Her presence was constant, her opinions honest, and her love unconditional.
Hilda is survived by her children, Angela (Dianne) Torres and David (Sharon) Torres; her grandchildren, Aaliyah and Tyler Torres; and her siblings, Marilyn (Frank) Anaya, Brunilda Torres, Victor Torres and Lillian Domenech. She is predeceased by her beloved husband, David. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
A celebration of Hilda’s life will be held on Tuesday, November 11, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Pelham Funeral Home, 64 Lincoln Avenue, Pelham, New York. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Wednesday, November 12, at 9:00 am, at Blessed Sacrament Church, 15 Shea Place, New Rochelle, New York. Interment will follow at Rose Hills Memorial Park in Putnam Valley.
