I was a gas company service tech & would get called to fix a pizza oven in the evenings in the early 70's and after repair I would take the repair ticket to their office & tell Tony what I had done==he always said to go back to order counter & tell them to give me a couple of "reheats" to take back to the gas company to share with coworkers..always pleasant to work with him & ron. Larry and Mary Jo, My sympathies to you on the loss of your brother. It has been many years since I taught in Spalding, but I remember you talking about your brother Tony and bringing us those yummy pizzas. You and your family are in our thoughts and prayers. Steve and Deb (Jorgenson) Gulzow

I went to work for Tony (we all called him Sonny then) at his restaurant at 35th and holdredge street. It was my first official job, I was sixteen yrs old, just got my driver's license, I needed a car, insurance, gas, and a way to pay for it. My mother told me to go see Tony at Valentino's. She said he is a good man and likes to help young people looking for work. She was right, he's was a business man and a leader. He had very good people working for him throughout the restaurant. He had quite the presence, a big man with a big voice, I can still hear him calling out orders. He stressed quality and taking care of the customer. No pizza pies went out that didn't meet his approval. This was right after the huskers won two national championships (70-71) and the husker vibe was throughout the workplace with players and coaches coming in to get their pizzas. Tony made a memorable impression on me and I'll never forget him or working for him.

Worked with Tony at his father's and uncle's grocery, Cornhusker Market at 25th & "O" in Lincoln, while in high school. "Sonny" was a great guy.

Mr. Messineo was a great man. Together with his amazing wife, they raised three wonderful children and I had the pleasure of getting to know them all. He taught and inspired many along the way.

One of my favorite people. He always had a nice word and a smile when he saw someone.
He will be missed, greatly.

We have lost one of Nebraska's greatest idols. He was a man with a huge heart and a true love of his family and community. It is so hard to put into words what Tony meant to Lincoln. I can tell you what he meant to my father, family and myself. Happiness, business reciprocity and big love.
My father will be happy to see him. I hope he takes his Valentino's coupons with him. I am sure they are gift cards now.
For those of us that are left behind, this is the hardest moment of life. The hole he leaves behind is painful. I just think of all the great times I had with him at the dealerships and the big smile he put on my dads face when he walked in.
Our love to you all. May his name always be a blessing. We will be planting a forest for him.
Love you all
Marsha
