Anthony J. “Tony” Monaco, age 86, of Weymouth and Bridgewater, passed away peacefully at Marlborough Hospital on Monday, January 5th, 2026, with family by his side. Born Sep 5th, 1939, in Dorchester, Tony was the son of the late Nicholas and Mary (Buccheri) Monaco. Tony grew up in Dorchester and was a 1958 graduate of Hyde Park High School.
Tony was an MBTA bus driver for many years and was a proud member of the Boston Carmen’s Union Local 589. After retiring from the MBTA, Tony enjoyed several years as a school bus driver for the Weymouth Public Schools.
Tony is predeceased by the love of his life, Claire (Gyukeri) Monaco, to whom he was married for 44 years, and his brother, Alexander Monaco.
He is survived by his son, Nicholas Monaco, and his wife Kerry of Rutland; his step-grandchildren, Daniel, Patrick, and Rylee McGrath; his sisters-in-law, Marie Woods and Elizabeth Taylor; several nieces and nephews; and his partner, Diane Dorr of Bridgewater. Tony took great joy in being “Papa” to his granddaughter, Arya Monaco.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visitation for Tony on Friday, January 16th, 2026, from 930 to 1130AM, followed by a service at 1130AM at the C. C. Shepherd Funeral Home, located at 134 Pleasant Street, Weymouth, MA. Tony will be laid to rest privately per the family's wishes, with his wife, Claire, at Mount Hope Cemetery at a later date.
