McGaffigan Family Funeral HomeAnthony Douglas Schupp, who considered himself one of the luckiest men alive, has “left the building.” Guided early by his Uncle Jim Moore and Coach Harold McAvoy, Doug’s love of football earned him scholarships to IONA Prep and later college, where he excelled until injuries ended his playing days. After graduating from Fort Lewis College, he served as a Captain in Vietnam.
Doug considered the day Maria Simonetti agreed to marry him his luckiest day. Together they raised their daughter, Kimberly Catherine, who gave them much joy and many grey hairs. Kimberly married Michael Green, who Doug considered a son-in-law every father hopes for. In 2003 and 2006 Kimberly and Mike welcomed two cherished daughters, Ella and Anna, who immediately captured their grandfather’s heart.
In 2010, Doug lost his beloved Maria after her courageous battle with cancer. In time, he found companionship again with an old friend, Anita Pichette, for a number of years.
The remainder of Doug's years were spent at Rivercourt Residences, where beautifully kind and skilled staff members worked alongside Kimberly to ensure he lived his life's end in comfort and dignity.
Doug leaves behind a loving family who will remember his humor, gratitude, and the deep affection he held for each of them.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 16th, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at McGaffigan Funeral Home, 37 Main St., (Rte. 113) Pepperell, MA. A small memorial service will follow at the funeral home from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Interment will be held on Wednesday, December 17th, at 10:00 AM at Mountain View Cemetery in Shrewsbury, MA, where Doug will be laid to rest beside Maria.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to IONA Preparatory School via https://www.ionaprep.org/apps/forms2/?f=790. Please make the gift in memory of Douglas Schupp and direct the gift to athletics.
