Anthony Michael Tate, 74, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. A beloved husband, father, and grandfather passed away on Thursday, October 16, 2025.
Anthony and Kyong knew each other for 55 years and have two sons, Jason and Thomasen. His wife says to him,
"Thank you for being my husband for 54 years. I love you."
Born on January 13, 1951, in Augusta, Georgia. His family relocated to Chicago Illinois when he was 3. At age 18 he enlisted in the US Army. While stationed in Korea he met Kyong Yi. One year and a half later they were married in Chicago, IL November 17th, 1971.
While stationed in Korea they conceived their first son Jason, before his first son was born He was transferred to Germany. In Germany they had their second son Thomasen.

During his service in the Army, he worked as a Medical Records Specialist and Field Wireman. While serving in the Army he received the National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and Sharpshooter Badge. Upon returning to the United States, he was last stationed in Fort Hood in Texas.
Upon retiring from the Army, Anthony began his technology career at Devry Institute of Technology in Chicago Illinois where he earned his Technician's Diploma. While still in school he was hired by Dynascan to do production test equipment repair. In his time off work He developed testing procedures. When Dynascan discovered he was the one fixing the majority of their equipment they asked him to provide coworker training.
In 1976 Rockwell Collins located in Cedar Rapids, Iowa came out to the Devry Institute to recruit new employees giving an interview exam to 106 students. Anthony was 1 of 6 students to pass the exam and was given a job offer. Anthony and his family then relocated to Cedar Rapids, Iowa upon accepting the opportunity.
During his years at Rockwell Collins from 1976 to 2000 Anthony worked in many different testing Laboratories as an Electronic Engineer Lab Technician. He worked with Engineers through the design, fabrication, test and build phases. He taught classes at Kirkwood Community College for his Rockwell Collins co-workers. Anthony loved to trouble shoot and fix complicated electronic equipment problems.
While working at Rockwell Collins he received recognition for developing an innovative software algorithm. He attended Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids to take many math classes and earned an Associate of Applied Science for PC and Internet Programming and one for Paralegal. After retiring from Rockwell Collins he designed, built, and programmed an automatic trailer braking system which he holds a patent.
Anthony was a kind, patient, and generous man. All his life he worked very hard. He loved spending time with his family and grandchildren. He is a Christian with a strong faith in God.
Anthony's hobbies included computer programming, mathematics, reading technical literature and playing the piano. Anthony loved engaging in critical thinking, valued knowledge, studied complex ideas, and used his mind to analyze and solve problems. He was very passionate about learning and sharing any knowledge he gained. He loved to teach and would always carry a book with him to spend time studying concepts or theories. His library is filled with hundreds of technical books.
Anthony is survived by his wife Kyong Tate, son Jason Tate and Grandson McLaren Tate, son Thomasen Tate and his wife Karna Tate, granddaughters Kai Tate and Pre Tate. sister Clemenette Henderson.
A memorial service will be held in Anthony's honor at the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories.
