Anthony G. Taylor March 15, 1958– November 3, 2025
Anthony Gerod Taylor, affectionately known as" Uncle Wah-Wah", was born on March 15, 1958, in Chicago, Illinois, to Classie Taylor and Major P. Oliver. He attended Hirsch Public School in Chicago and later proudly served his country in the United States Army, enlisting in 1976 and receiving an honorable discharge.
Anthony shared his early years with his school sweetheart, Margaret Catchings, and together they had a son, Venice Catchings. In 1980, Anthony married Sharon Denise Taylor on March 17, and to this union two daughters were born: Denina and Shanene Taylor.
In the 90's he worked with Smith Glass Company, Chicago, Illinois, where he assisted with measuring, cutting, and installing glass. In 2007, he relocated to
Decatur, Illinois, where he became an active member of his community. He worked and volunteered with the Northeast Community Fund and served as a Help for Heroes Liaison for several years, dedicating his time to helping others until his health declined due to complications from diabetes.
Anthony was a man of many characters and had larger-than-life personalities: Tony Moe, Big Moe, Uncle Moe, Old Man, and, of course, Uncle Wah-Wah. He was a charmer and a gentleman who never hesitated to lend a helping hand. Whether holding a door, taking out the trash, cutting grass, shoveling snow, or working on a car, Anthony always showed his kindness and respect, often punctuated with a heartfelt "Ma'am" or "Sir."
On November 3, 2025, Anthony departed this life. He is preceded in death by his parents, Classie Taylor and Major P. Oliver; his sister, Dorothy Howard; his son, Venice Catchings; and his granddaughter, Ciara Ford.
He leaves to cherish his memory: two daughters, Denina Taylor and Shanene Taylor; three sisters, Catherine Davis, Classie Hardin, and Barbara Seales; one brother, Howard (Carolyn) McClerken; one uncle Ruben McIntosh; five grandchildren, Daija Taylor, Jasmine Catchings, Venice Catchings Jr., Shamiya Catchings, and Joell Belton; five great-grandchildren, Daveah Taylor, Avery Taylor, Makiya Ford, Terrance Ford, and Milani Murph; and special nephew Trey Griffin; and acknowledging Mama Willie Mae Williams. Special friends: Angela Douglas, bonus daughter LaMyah Douglas; Joyce and Jack Keller, Jerry Pelz, Tom and Amy Schneider. Crew Brothers: Arthur Wright, Bobby Ray Roper and Fredrick Moore; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends who will remember him with love and laughter.
Anthony's spirit, humor, and generosity touched everyone he met. His memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
