Anthony Dale "Tony" Thornton, 29, of Smithfield, North Carolina, passed away on January 21, 2026, in his hometown. Born on January 9, 1997.
Tony was a man of unwavering faith and a generous spirit. His strong connection with God guided him throughout his life and was evident in the way he treated others with kindness, compassion, and an open heart. Known for his infectious laughter and musical talent, Tony had a gift for bringing people together. Whether strumming his guitar or sharing stories from the front porch, he created moments of joy and comfort for those around him.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife Jess and their three children: Alexandria, Myles, and Killian. Tony's devotion to his family was evident in every aspect of his life. He also leaves behind his mother April Wooten; brothers Dakota Tucker (Tori), Dustin Thornton, Branson Locklear, Nick Delisle (Liz), Tyler Register (Tabitha), Christopher Wooten (Sara), Toby Sanderford (Luna) and Andre Brickey (Lyric); sisters Mari Alvarez (Jose), Gerina Tucker, Keirstin Wooten (Reggie), and Ashley Zavala (Gerrod); a multitude of neices and nephews that he loved dearly; and many more that touched his heart. Each shared a unique bond with Tony that will be cherished forever.
Tony was preceded in death by his father, Dale Thornton, stepmother Edith Zavala, his godson Waylyn Cole Register, and all of his maternal and paternal grandparents.
Music was more than a hobby for Tony; it was an extension of who he was, his ability to write and perform his own music was both heart warming and inspiring and echoed through the neighborhood as he played from the porch, offering comfort or celebration depending on the day. Those who knew him will remember not only the sound of his music but also the warmth of his presence.
A funeral service to honor Tony’s life will be held at a later date to be announced.
May Tony’s memory bring peace to those who knew him and continue to inspire love and laughter in their hearts.
