Anthony Max Wylie

Nov 13, 2022 Anthony "Tony" Max Wylie, beloved husband, father, and grandpa of Anchorage, Alaska passed away unexpectedly, but peacefully, in his Phoenix home on November 13th, 2022. Tony was born in Fort Ord, California. He grew up in California where he spent his early years developing his passions for all things baseball, hunting, fishing, and construction. At Salinas High School, Tony met the love of his life, Sue, and the two were married shortly after graduation. Tony was drafted by the Mets organization right out of high school where he played until deciding to move to La Pine, Oregon to begin a family and start AM Wylie Construction. Following in his fathers footsteps, Tony later joined the FAA as an air traffic controller which ultimately brought him to Alaska in 1982. Along with his career in the FAA, Tony was highly involved in the Alaska baseball community. Over the years, Tony coached at East, South, and Service High Schools and was the co-founder of the Alaska Baseball Academy and Junior Sockeyes Organization where he coached and gave players the opportunity to love the game as much as he did. After Tony retired from the FAA, Tony and Sue became snowbirds and enjoyed their second home in North Phoenix where they loved to golf, travel to Raiders home games, and attend their church, Ecclesia: Church at the Chip in Cave Creek.

Tony was preceded in death by his mother Fraunzie Wylie-Pullin. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Sue Wylie, daughter Cristy (Ken) Jensen, Son Jeremy Wylie, grandchildren Kelsey (Stephen) Farber, Kolby and Kyler Jensen, Ava and Olivia Wylie, great grandchildren Everly and Emerson Farber, father Jerry (Barbara) Wylie, sisters Tammy (Mike) Dittman and Twylia (Tim) Mckee, step brothers Russ (Michelle), Rob, and Roger (Jaqueline) Biehl and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews, and nieces.

A celebration of life will be held at Mulcahy Stadium on June 19th at 6:00PM. We ask that everyone wear their favorite baseball attire and we welcome all past and present Alaska Baseball Academy players and coaches to bring their gear for a pick up game after the service in honor of Coach Wylie.
