Antonio Sanchez Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Castle Ridge Mortuary - North on Mar. 9, 2026.
Antonio "Tony" Sanchez, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, was welcomed into the Lord's embrace on March 3, 2026, at the age of 91. Born on June 16, 1934, in Kenedy, Texas, Tony lived a life characterized by deep faith, unwavering love for his family, and a steadfast commitment to his country and community.

Tony passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of love and faith. He is preceded in death by his parents, Maria and Rumaldo, and brothers, Rumaldo, Jr., Juan and Mario. He is survived by his beloved wife, Victoria, with whom he shared a beautiful marriage of 69 years. Together, they raised a family that includes their sons, Antonio Jr. (Marcelle) and Thomas (Sandra), and their daughters, Delia (Kenneth) and Leticia (Armando). Tony was a guiding light and role model for his grandchildren, Cayla (Saul), Erica, Evan, Daniel, Jacob, Grace, Joe, and Bella, and he cherished the moments he spent with his great-granddaughter, Eleanor. He is also survived by his sister, Felipa DeLeon, and two brothers, Salvador (Selia) and Jose Luis, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Though Tony's journey began in a small town, his dreams and service took him far beyond its borders. A proud veteran, he served with honor in the United States Army, rising to the rank of Sergeant Major. Upon retiring from active duty, he continued his service in the US Army Reserve. His commitment to his fellow veterans was further exemplified by his career as a Director of Procurement at VA Hospitals across San Antonio, Kerrville, El Paso, and Marion, Indiana. Tony's professional life was marked by integrity and a strong work ethic, qualities he instilled in all who knew him.

Tony's life was deeply rooted in his Catholic faith, which shone through his involvement with Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Helotes, his service as a Grand Knight with the Knights of Columbus and his work with the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. Among the ministries closest to his heart was bringing Holy Communion to homebound parishioners, offering them comfort, connection and faith. His love for God was evident in every aspect of his life and was a source of strength and inspiration for his family and friends.

An avid gardener, Tony found joy in the simplicity of growing his tomatoes and his favorite chili peppers, a hobby that reflected his nurturing nature. He enjoyed watching his Cowboy football and Spurs basketball with Victoria by his side. But above all, it was his volunteer work at his church that truly embodied his generous spirit and his commitment to service.

Tony was a man of many virtues: loving, friendly, and faith-filled. His warm smile and kind heart left a lasting impression on everyone he encountered. He was a pillar of strength for his family, a loyal friend to many, and a devoted servant of God.

As we bid farewell to Tony, we celebrate a life well-lived, a journey of love, service, and faith that touched countless lives. We find comfort in knowing that he is now at peace with our Heavenly Father, and we are forever grateful for the memories we have shared. His spirit will continue to guide us, and his legacy will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know him. Rest in peace until we meet again in the glorious presence of our Lord.
