Rev. Dr. Antony Oliver Hobbs EdD, 90, transitioned, peacefully at his home June 27, 2024. He was born February 25th, 1934, in Marianna, Arkansas.
He was a passionate teacher, principal, superintendent, U.A.P.B. College professor and author. He worked for the betterment of the state with the majority of Governors, from Governor W. Rockefeller to Governor Bill Clinton. He was awarded "Foot Soldiers for Freedom" by U.A.L.R. Butler Center Studies. He was honored for being the "Father of the Civil Rights Movement in Lee County", Arkansas, that lead to the development of fair education, jobs, and the development of the Lee County Cooperative Clinic. He has represented U.A.P.B. Traveling to Spanish Speaking countries. He loved the U.A.P.B. Lions. He was a former football player.
He is survived by 5 children and their mother, Mrs. Lula Jean Hobbs, Bonita, Antony, Carolyn, Elvesto, Marshall, 8 beloved sisters and brothers, 12 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, 5 great great grandchildren, and a host of cousins and friends.
The Visitation services will be held at Brown Funeral Home in Pine Bluff, AR from 4:00pm to 5:00pm on Sunday, July 7, 2024, for public viewing. The Home-going service will be at Allen Temple A.M.E. in Pine Bluff, AR at 1:00pm on Monday, July 8, 2024. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Dr. A.O. Hobbs Scholarship Fund. Services entrusted to Brown Funeral Home of Pine Bluff, AR.
