April J. Houston

April J. Houston, of Dover, passed away at her home on Sunday, June 1, 2025, at the age of 53.
Born on June 10, 1971 in Millersburg she was a daughter of Amanda Hershberger Adkins of Dover and the late Thomas Adkins Sr. April was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert S. "Bob" Houston, and brothers, Jeff and Thomas Adkins Jr.
April, alongside her husband, dedicated over two decades to the real estate industry through their company, GAO Ltd. Her entrepreneurial spirit extended beyond real estate as she founded Pies by April, a business that brought joy to both her and many local residents. April cherished the experience of selling her baked goods at local farmers markets, where her warmth and friendliness made her a recognizable figure. Her dedication to community service was evident through her volunteer work with the Dover Food Pantry, reflecting her commitment to helping those in need. April's passions included reading, traveling, cooking, gardening, and exploring the great outdoors, all of which enriched her life and the lives of those around her. She was a devoted mother and a cherished friend.
April is survived by her children: Natasha (James) Beem of Texas, Stephanie Houston of Stow, and her sons Bobby, Jimmy, and Eric Houston, all of Dover. Her legacy will continue through her cherished grandchildren, Nate, Sophia, and Rory. She is also survived by her siblings: Edward Adkins of New Philadelphia, Angie (Amos) Chupp of Millersburg, and Adam (Jackie) Adkins of Dundee.
Cremation has been entrusted to the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory. A service celebrating April's life will be held on Thursday, June 5th starting at 6:00 pm in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory at 140 South Bodmer Ave. Strasburg with Rev. David Wing officiating. The family will be greeting friends at the Strasburg funeral home on Thursday from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm.
