Archie Wesley Hicks, Jr. left his earthly home on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, at the age of 86, in Fort Worth, Texas.
He was born September 15, 1938, in Bell, California, to Archie Wesley Hicks and Flora Marie Hess Hicks. Wes was the third born of five children.
Wes was preceded in death by his father, Archie Wesley Hicks; mother, Flora Marie Hess Hicks; sister, Marie Black Genskay; brothers, John Hicks and Nathan Hicks; sister, Carmie Ray Carter; daughter-in-law, Donise Sneed; daughter, Darlean Thorn; and grandson, Randall Thorn.
Wes was educated in California, and joined the U.S. Navy September 19, 1956, in San Diego, California. After four years he transferred to the Naval Reserves in Seattle, Washington, for eight more years. While stationed in Seattle he married and had a daughter, Shannon Hicks, they later relocated to Texas.
Wes had a passion for Christ and a thirst for knowledge. He was an avid reader, and enjoyed riding motorcycles and spreading the Gospel with other Christian leaders. He enjoyed the outdoors and had a ferocious green thumb. Wes was passionate about politics, and keeping others informed. He was a member of Life & Liberty Church in Fort Worth, Texas.
Wes met the love of his life, Wilma Sneed, in 1995, and married her and her large family December 16, 1995, and forever his life was changed. He retired as a commercial printer in 2008.
Wes was survived by his love, Wilma; daughter, Shannon Hicks; niece, Tammy and Warren Odom; and son, Travis; and nephews, Rick and Dave Black.
Family: Polly and Mark Martinez, Danny and Ricki Sneed, Marlene and Daniel Bone, Archie and Janice Sneed, and Don and Vicki Sneed.
He was "Papa Wes" to a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held at Mount Olivet Chapel on Monday, October 28, 2024, at 2:30 p.m. There will be a time of visitation on Sunday, October 27, 2024, from 5 to7 p.m.
His burial will take place at a later date at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery.
