Archie Smith, a well-known and beloved community member, passed away unexpectedly at his home in Beeville, Texas on Thursday, July 17, 2025, at the age of 73. Archie lived a life defined by kindness, laughter and a remarkable dedication to his community.
Archie was born April 2, 1952, in Robstown to Dodson Sinclair Smith and Cleo (Nation) Smith. He retired from the City of Beeville, having devoted many years to the community alongside his employment with Galloway & Sons Funeral Home. His roles extended to serving as the Head of Security for the Texas Grand (Special) dance hall, where one would find him in his element making friends and keeping the peace at weekday/weekend social events - just he, charisma and a trusty MAG light.
Known as an unofficial ambassador for Garner State Park, Archie spent 40-plus years welcoming family and friends and ensuring that their experiences were joyful and memorable. A man of many talents and passions, Archie made his mark as a Little League coach, inspiring young athletes in the area. His involvement with the Bee County Area Go-Texan Committee spanned more than 25 years, further illustrating his dedication to the local community.
If you met Archie, he’d leave you with a smile and a lasting impression soon not forgotten.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dodson and Cleo Smith; sisters, Alice Florence Farris and Carolyn Sue Jackson; brothers, Dodson Sinclair Smith Jr., Mitchell Charles “Silkie” Smith and Clarence Edward Smith; nieces, Teresa Gail McCraig and Cleo Danielle Jackson; and nephews, Joe “JoJo” Allen Smith and Charles Edward Smith.
Survivors include his sons, Archie Smith Jr. of Oakland, California and Gabriel Smith of Houston; a grandson, Zachariah “Zach” Smith stationed in Pensacola, Florida; two sisters, Essie Raye Langley and Christine Smith, both of Beeville; the mothers of his sons, Leticia Renaud and Janie Franco-Smith; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 24, 2025, at Galloway & Sons Funeral Home.
The funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. Friday, July 25, at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Dr. Eric Tarver officiating.
Burial will follow at St. Rose Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Mitchell Smith, Ozzie Smith, Trey Smith, Devin Smith, Robert Stanley Farris II, Clifford Smith, Robert Stanley Farris III, Dodson Sinclair Smith, Justin Johnson, Tercel Johnson, Klayton Alvarado, Nathan Castaneda and Christopher Barnes.
Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Johnny and the entire Galloway Family, Louis Segovia, Joel Castaneda, Dewayne “Bobo” Bowman, O’Brien Family, Balde Alvarado, Lawrence “Bubba” Beasley, Rene Soto, Fred Diaz, Myron Miller, Lupe H. Garcia, Robert “Slu” Robinson and Freddy Lopez.
