Archie Douglas, 67, of Groveton, Texas, passed away peacefully in Nacogdoches, Texas, in 2025. He was born in Trinity, Texas, in 1958 to the late Archie Thomas Smith and Allene Smith. Archie lived a full and purposeful life, defined by faith, family, hard work, and a genuine desire to help others.
Archie attended Groveton High School and proudly graduated with the Class of 1977, where he served as class president. While in school, he even taught woodshop during his senior year, sharing early on the leadership and practical skills that became hallmarks of his life. Archie went on to become an ordained minister and used his gifts to minister, encourage, and uplift those around him. He was an active member of Zion Hill Baptist Church, where he served faithfully on the Building and Grounds Committee and participated in several organizations including the AWS Welding Society, Promise Keepers, and Gideon.
A man of many talents and passions, Archie loved fishing, building, dancing, and especially cooking-BBQ in particular. He enjoyed spending time outdoors and could often be found working with his hands, fixing things, or lending an encouraging word and a helping hand to anyone in need. His greatest joy, however, was spending time with his family, and he cherished every moment with his grandchildren. Archie lived out his faith through action, kindness, and service, leaving an impact that will be remembered for generations.
Archie was preceded in death by his father, Archie Thomas Smith; his mother, Allene Smith; his sister, Linda Lane; his wife, Patricia Smith; and his great-grandson, Greyson Diaz.
He is survived by his loving wife, Roxie Smith of Groveton, his children, Johnathan Smith of Groveton, Jessica Monroe and husband, Jonathon, of Groveton, Jacob Smith of Groveton, Amanda Mueller, and Adeline Smith. His cherished grandchildren are Courtney, Garrett, Hannah, Ethan, Kendra, Jay, Serenity, Luke, Mason, Scott, and Jasper. He is also survived by his siblings: brother Melvin Smith and wife, Linda; brother Buddy Allen Smith; sister Janet Henley and husband, Glenn; sister Marthalene Doshier; and sister Cindy Eastepp and husband, Donald; along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
Pallbearers are Jonathon Monroe, Jody Rhoden, Tony King, Thomas Smith, Mark Mathis, and James Whitworth. Honorary pallbearers are Ethan Daughtry and Chris Millard.
Visitation for Archie will be held on Sunday, November 30, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Groveton Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be Monday, December 1, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Groveton First Baptist Church, with Minister Dee Queen officiating.
Interment will follow at Flat Prairie Cemetery.
Archie will be remembered for his warm smile, his unwavering generosity, and his deep love for his family. His legacy is one of faith, dedication, and the countless lives he touched simply by showing up, helping out, and loving wholeheartedly. His presence will be deeply missed, but his memory will remain a blessing to all who knew him.
