Ardis M. Winters, age 91 of Marshalltown, passed away on Friday, November 14, 2025 at the Iowa River Hospice Home.
Born Ardis Marion Schaper on May 28, 1934 in Green Mountain, IA, the daughter of Arno and Myra (Renner) Schaper. She graduated from Green Mountain High School.
Following graduation, she worked in the office at Lennox Industries. Ardis met her future husband, Jerry Winters at the skating rink. On February 5, 1955, Jerry and Ardis were united in marriage in Marshalltown. They welcomed two daughters, Jana and Julie. Ardis stayed home with her girls for several years. Ardis filled her time at SoFro Fabrics, the Rose Peddler, and volunteered at the hospital gift shop. Her most treasured times were spent making memories with her family.
Ardis had a gift for sewing and quilting. She made countless quilts for her family and friends and was an active member of the Iowa Quilt Guild and Central Iowa Quilt Sewiety. In earlier years, Ardis and Jerry enjoyed vacations in south Texas for many years. Ardis was an Iowa Hawkeye fan, especially football and basketball. She was drawn to Caitlin Clark and recently enjoyed following the Indiana Fever.
Ardis was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry in 2012; grandson, Kellen Nail in 2025; and her siblings, Carolyn Olsen, Kenneth Schaper, Lois Dickerson, and two infant siblings. Left to cherish her memory are her daughters: Jana (Allan) Loschky of Bartlett, TN and Julie Winters of Marshalltown, IA; grandchildren: Mandi (Johnny) Cannon, Jennifer Nail and Grant Pazderka; six great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandson; and her brother, Allen Schaper of Ames.
Per Ardis’ wishes, cremation rites have taken place. A family-led celebration of Ardis’ life will be held from 1:00 until 3:00 P.M. at Central Christian Church in Marshalltown on Monday, November 17, 2025. Memorial donations may be directed to the family for a special donation to Iowa River Hospice Home.
