She was born April 21, 1930 in Smoke Hole, WV, the daughter of Olie and Annie Kimble Self. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Aretta married Amby C. Helmick on December 21, 1946 in Franklin, WV; Amby preceded her in death December 3, 1995.
She is survived by her children: Paul C. Helmick (Judy), David O. Helmick (Kathy), Kenneth E. Helmick, all of Winchester, and a daughter, Linda M. Markulik of Inwood, WV, nine grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and seven great- great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 22, 2025 at Jones Funeral Home in Winchester from 6:00pm – 8:00 pm.
A funeral will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 399 Apple Pie Ridge Rd. Winchester, VA 22603 on Wednesday, July 23, 2025 at 11:00 am with Bishop Benjamin Read officiating.
Entombment will follow at Shenandoah Memorial Park. Pall bearers will be Michael Thompson, Bryan Helmick, Tyler Helmick, Christopher Helmick, Chris Burkhart, Dallas Arbogast, and Alan Burkhart and honorary pall bearer, Nick Helmick.
