Rodney William Auger ("Bulldog"), age 70, passed away peacefully on April 8, 2025, at Winchester Medical Center.
Born on January 29, 1955, in Flint, Michigan, Rodney was a state-champion wrestler at Flint's Southwestern High School. After graduation, Rod proudly served 12 years in the United States Marine Corps as a Staff Sergeant. After leaving the service, he was able to chase his true passion - music. He was a man who lived life on his own terms, with a guitar in hand and music in his soul. A lifelong musician, Rodney found joy, purpose, and connection through the strings of his guitar. He played with heart-on stages, on porches, in parks, and on sidewalks-wherever people would stop and listen. Rod was CEO and owner of Max T Music, Bulldog Productions; and created and produced music in Flint, Michigan and Nashville, Tennessee. His original songs were featured in movies such as Canadian Bacon and Roger and Me. Later in life, as he performed in Old Town Winchester, Virginia as a street musician, he didn't just play music; he shared pieces of himself through every chord, every lyric, every note.
Rodney's music was raw, real, and filled with emotion, just like the man himself. He was a storyteller, a wanderer, and someone who found beauty in rhythm and sound. His love for music was a constant throughout his life, and he passed that passion on to those around him.
Rod was preceded in death by his parents, Antoinette and Gary Auger.
He is survived by his children: Amy (James) Costello, Max (Angie) Auger, Amanda (David) Clarke, Derek McCann, and Jasmine (Cameron) Dempsey. He was a grandfather to Alexis, Derek (Jazmyn), and Amanda Costello; Chelsea and Max Auger, Jr.; Kayla and Mya Clarke-and a great-grandfather to Ashur Costello and Miley Costello. He is also survived by his siblings: Joe, Gary, and Troy Auger; Adrienne (John) Morgan; and Frankie Neeley, along with many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages you to honor Rodney by playing a song he would have loved, picking up a guitar, or simply listening to music that moves you.
Though his hands are still, the music he shared lives on-in memories, in hearts, and in every song that reminds us of him.
