**In Loving Memory of Arla Mae DeFelice**
June 11, 1932 - September 29, 2025
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of a beloved matriarch, Arla Mae, who left us peacefully September 29, 2025. Born in Tyndall, South Dakota, she was the youngest of five children, a cherished member of the Henzlik family, and grew up in the heart of Mitchell, South Dakota.
Arla's journey began on June 11, 1932, when she was welcomed into the world by her loving parents, Joseph and Sylvia Henzlik. Surrounded by her siblings—Joy, Lucille, Marvin, and Buddy—she blossomed into a remarkable woman who would go on to spread joy and love wherever she ventured.
After graduating from Mitchell High School in June 1950, Arla embarked on a new adventure by moving to Los Angeles in 1952. There, she met her soulmate, Walter DeFelice Jr. Their love story culminated in a beautiful wedding on her birthday, June 11, 1953. Their bond remained steadfast until Walter's passing on May 28, 2021.
As a mother, Arla embraced her role with grace and devotion, raising three wonderful children: Garth W. DeFelice (and wife Karen), Mark DeFelice (who predeceased her in 2019), and Kim (DeFelice) Horner (widow). Her legacy continues through her seven beloved grandchildren: Janica (DeFelice) Taboga (and husband Eric), Alicia Doyno (and husband Kenny), Nick DeFelice (and wife Chelsea), Danielle Newberg (and husband Louie), Kenny Mei (and wife Danielle), William DeFelice (and wife Jackie), and Dillon DeFelice.
Arla's love extended to fifteen great-grandchildren, each of whom brought immense joy to her life: Haylie Sacco, Nick Taboga, Kira Barry, Dillon Mei, Ashlynn Newberg, Braelynn Newberg, William DeFelice, Audrey Taboga, Luke DeFelice, Charlie Mei, Julia Taboga, Oliver DeFelice, Natalie DeFelice, Henry Mei, and Garth D. DeFelice. She was also blessed with a great-great-grandchild, Alexander Sacco, adding yet another branch to her family's tree.
As a Wife, Mother, Nana, and Friend, Arla exemplified love and kindness. Her devotion to her family was felt deeply, and she cherished every moment spent with them. Her faith in Christ was unwavering, and her love for her church, Christ the King Lutheran, served as a pillar in her life.
Beyond her roles within the family, Arla was also known for her exceptional culinary skills; her cooking and baking created delicious memories cherished by everyone who gathered around her table.
We will remember Arla not only for her unwavering love and dedication but also for the warmth she brought into our lives. She will be profoundly missed and forever held in our hearts.
May her spirit continue to guide us as we celebrate the beautiful life she lived.
Proverbs 31:31
"Honor her for all that her hands have done, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate."
