Arlen Skunberg

Arlen Dale Skunberg 84, Moorhead, MN, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on January 15, 2025, at Bethany on University in Fargo, ND.

Mr. Skunberg (heavy on the Mr. as Arlen would say) was born September 17, 1940, in Pelican Rapids, MN, to Alvin and Nelia (Dahlen) Skunberg. He graduated from Pelican Rapids High School and following school, Arlen delivered milk for the local creamery. He later accepted a job with Farnum's Trucking and was an over the road driver for several years. During these last few years, we have enjoyed Arlen’s stories of his trucking adventures, stories that he shared with such excitement and enthusiasm.

On July 11, 1970, Arlen married Diane Johnson. They resided in Moorhead, MN, and raised their three children. He enjoyed tinkering in the garage, repotting plants, Diane's cooking, his Norwegian heritage and visiting with family and friends. These simple things in life gave Arlen immense joy.

In 1971, he was hired as a custodian in the field house at NDSU and soon became a big Bison fan. Arlen transitioned to the physical plant at NDSU and did carpentry throughout the campus. In 2005, Governor John Hoeven presented Arlen with the Governor's Award for Excellence, and he also received a staff recognition award in the crafts and trades category from NDSU's President Chapman. After 36 years of dedication, he retired in April 2007.

Remembering Arlen with admiration include his daughter, Tanya (Bill) Feucht, Fargo, ND; his sons, Troy (Julie), Moorhead, MN, and Todd (Kristie), Fargo, ND; granddaughter, Kaja Feucht, Fargo, ND; brother, Merle (Avonne) Skunberg, Moorhead, MN, as well as several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his dance partner of 51 years, wife, Diane (2021); his parents; and brother, Gordon.

The family is forever grateful for Serenity Assisted Living, Bethany Retirement Living, and Hospice of the Red River Valley’s companionship and care.

Funeral service for Arlen will be held Friday, January 24, 2025, at 1PM in Korsmo Funeral and Cremation Service of Moorhead, MN. Visitation will be one hour prior to his service. Interment will be in the spring at Scandia Cemetery, Averill, MN.
