Arlene M. Beman, age 94, of Regency South, 100 Thompson Drive, SE, passed away at the Cottage Grove Place on Sunday, February 23, 2025.
A visitation will be held at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel Stateroom on Friday, March 7, from 12 to 4 PM with a prayer service at 3 PM. A private interment will be held at All Saints Catholic Cemetery, Des Plaines, Illinois in the family plot.
Survivors include Arlene's special nephews, Milo G. (Emma) Beman III; John (Diane) Beman, Frank ( Joanne) Mustari; nieces Patricia (Dennis) Jung, Mary Coppola, and Karen Mustari, grandnieces and grandnephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Milo G. Beman, Jr., a sister, Geraldine Mustari, as well as her close friend and housemate Dorthea "Dottie" O'Brien.
Arlene was born January 16, 1931, in Chicago, Illinois to the late Milo G. and Vera N. Beman.
She was a member of St. Matthew Catholic Church, Elmcrest Country Club, Mercy Medical Center Foundation, and supported the Hospice House of Mercy as well as the Hall-Perrine Cancer Center.
In Ohio, Arlene was a Charter Member and Past President of Delta Kappa Gamma Society, on the YWCA Advisory Board, United Way Allocations Board, President of the Ohio Supervisors' Organization, and a Life Member of O.R.T.A.
She was an administrator, elementary supervisor, curriculum director, and later a principal in the Newark City Schools, retiring in 1986. Arlene was instrumental in the development of the first Gifted Program in Newark.
A graduate of Northwestern University, Evanston, Illinois, she was affiliated with Kappa Delta Sorority and majored in psychology and sociology. Later, Arlene attended Coe College as a post-graduate for student teaching experience. Her career started with teaching third grade at Garfield School in Cedar Rapids.
She held a Master's Degree from Toledo University, Ohio, plus Doctoral Studies at Ohio State University, where she taught for several summers.
Arlene loved to read, traveled to many foreign countries and all fifty states, played golf and bridge, and was helpful to many friends and relatives.
Memorial donations may be directed to the Mercy Hall-Perrine Cancer Center, or to the charity of the giver's choice.
