Arlene Patricia (Swain) Ernst
Age 83 of Apple Valley, MN passed away on January 13.
Arlene was born in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada, to William and Margerite Swain. At an early age, she moved with her parents and two sisters to Saint Paul, Minnesota.
In 1961, Arlene was honored as Miss West Saint Paul, a role in which she proudly represented her community and enjoyed making appearances at local events.
Arlene was exceptionally talented with her hands and was a master seamstress. She created lovely formal gowns for her daughters and also enjoyed crocheting and baking, often making beautifully decorated cakes to celebrate birthdays.
She spent many years as an Avon representative, earning numerous sales awards and recognition. Arlene had a passion for travel, especially trips to Ireland, where she delighted in her love of Irish crystal. An avid shopper, she was always on the lookout for a good bargain even if that meant flying to Seoul, Korea. Above all, Arlene loved celebrations - parties, laughter, and family gatherings brought her the greatest joy. She also enjoyed her monthly gatherings with Henry Sibley classmates and was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 594 in Apple Valley.
Arlene was preceded in death by her parents, William and Margerite Swain, and her in-laws, Babe and Florence Ernst. She is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, John; her children, Kimberly (Steve) Kuhn, Stephanie (Craig) Rustad, Jennifer (Chris) Vecellio, and Richard (Laura) Ernst; 13 grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by many family and friends who will cherish her memory.
