As important as Rachel Robinson was to Dodgers-Baseball-American history, so too was Elston Howard's great Yankee wife Arlene, who was by his side when the Yankees integrated in 1955.....and with that, the two of them integrated a whole neighborhood in Teaneck NJ (not without great effort). Arlene (who was a baby sitter in St. Louis for young Chris Chambliss).....was a welcome figure at baseball gatherings; a woman of great presence, dignity, strength, and intelligence. Everyone in the baseball community loved this beautiful woman.
