Arlene Marie (Becker) McGinnis died peacefully on September 14, 2025, at home and surrounded by family. Daughter of Charles and Helen Becker, Mrs. McGinnis was born on January 18, 1939 in Brooklyn, New York. Having split her childhood between Queens, NY and a dairy farm in the Pocono Mountain region of Pennsylvania, Arlene held a lifelong appreciation for the environs and operations of farming and all that the Big Apple had to offer. She grew up sharing a passion for baseball with her grandfather and close family ties with her extended family. She was educated in both locations and finished her BA in Education at Molloy College in New York. In 1961, Arlene married Daniel L. McGinnis of Honesdale, PA. They moved to Michigan where she got a job teaching while Dan finished his undergraduate degree. Following a year in Michigan and two in New Jersey, they settled in Trexlertown, PA for many years, and raised three daughters. Dan's career took them to Rochester NY, West Chester, PA and Long Island, New York, where, in each place, Arlene recreated a home for the family. In 1994, Arlene and Dan moved to Round Hill, VA and established a beloved homestead farm where they hosted every holiday and their grandchildren grew to love it as a second home. While in VA, Arlene participated in the Leesburg Garden Club and Capital Speakers of DC, and was a foundation board member for Loudon Hospital for many years. Everyone who met her described Arlene as the life of the party: spirited and engaging; and a force of nature. She loved gardening, entertaining, excellence in all things, and being the heart of the family. Following Dan's death in 2021, Arlene sold the farm and moved to Columbia, MD to be closer to her three daughters. She is survived by them: Colleen McGinnis (Rod Kornrumpf), Kelly Royston (Bo Royston), and Erin Meitzler (Rich Meitzler); her five grandchildren: Kaitlin Very, Connor and Taylor Royston, and Tristan and Jonathan Meitzler, and her great grandson, Graham Very Ruby.
