Arlene Ann Alband Ping, 92 of Somerset, passed from this life on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, at the Jean Waddle Hospice Care Center surrounded by her loving family. Her transition was a fulfillment of her long-awaited desire to be in the presence of her Lord and Savior.
She was born on February 8, 1933, in
Rose City, Michigan, daughter of the late Charles Harold Alband and Jenny Pearl Austin Alband. Arlene was a 1950 graduate of Utica high school in Utica, Michigan and later earned a special Certification as a Medical Technician. On November 7, 1953, Arlene married the love of her life; Melvin Eugene Ping in Utica, Michigan, they enjoyed 36 years of marriage together prior to his death in 1989. Having worked with children most of her career, Arlene provided loving and tender care to children of all ages. She was a foster grandparent for several years at the Memorial Education Center and had a genuine passion for the children there.
Arlene enjoyed spending time in her garden, doing yard work, spending time with her family especially loving on her grandbabies. Arlene loved the Lord, and was of the Christian Faith, always trusting in the Lord. She had a quote that she loved; "God is good, God is Great, take him at his word and wait. She was a loving, generous and kind-hearted wife, mother and grandmother and will be sadly missed by her family and friends.
Besides her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by two brothers; Charles Tedman Alband and Gerald Paul (Rosemary) Alband and a great-grandson; Joshua Devin Stringer who died in infancy.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory her beloved children; Harold Thomas (Joyce) Ping of Monticello, Kentucky, Clara Jean Holder and Mary Geraldine (Robert) Carson all of Somerset, her loving grandchildren; Christy Ann (Jamie) Soper, Tim (Alecia) Haynes, Jerehme Eugene (Chelsea) Carson, Michael Seth Carson,, Caitlin Faith Carson, Andrew Thomas Carson, her step-grandchildren; Mark Manning, Renee Eads, Tisha Nevels, Cordelia Keith, Scotty Hodge, Jason Guinn and Tyler Guinn, twenty-two great grandchildren and step-great grandchildren as well as four great-great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm on Monday, January 12, 2026, in the Chapel of Somerset Undertaking Co & Crematory. A Funeral Service celebrating the life of Arlene will be at 2:00 pm in the Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Randy Wiles officiating. Burial will be in the Somerset City Cemetery.
