GRANVILLE - Arlene Alice Rathbun, 86, of Granville, New York, passed away peacefully on July 20, 2025. A beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, Arlene's warmth and generosity touched the lives of many.
Born on September 10, 1938, to Leo Clothier and Lola Clark Clothier, Arlene dedicated her life to her family and community. She married Daryl Rathbun on June 23, 1956, and was a devoted wife until his passing on October 2, 2023.
She is survived by her two sons, Michael Rathbun and his wife Kim, and Ralph Rathbun and his partner Debra Convis. Arlene was a proud and loving grandmother to eight grandchildren, Christopher, Patricia, Joel, Amy Kattrein, Scott Kattrein, Sarah, April Vunk, and Richard Turnbull. She was also a cherished great-grandmother to Jack, Julia, Brandon, Valentina, Mandy, Hunter, Grayson, Carly, and several others who brought her great joy. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Marilyn Haviland and many nieces and nephews.
Arlene was preceded in death by her brothers, Francis Clothier and Harold Clothier.
A talented homemaker, Arlene had a lifelong passion for knitting and sewing, especially creating clothing for children. Her home was the heart of family celebrations, where she was known for her homemade blueberry muffins, chocolate peanut butter balls, and cheesecakes made to celebrate birthdays. She adored her Pomeranians, who were her constant companions.
Arlene worked as a food service manager at Granville Central School for 28 years, where she was known not only for her dedication but also for the care and kindness she gave to every student she served. Her presence in the school community left a lasting impression.
She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her legacy of kindness and family traditions will live on through the many lives she touched.
Arrangements are in the care of the M.B. Kilmer Funeral Home, 123 Main Street, Argyle, NY 12809.
A private service will be held by the family.
