Arlene Francis (Stearns) Thompson, 80, of North Windham, passed away peacefully Tuesday night, September 23, 2025 at Autumn Lake Health Center. Born September 30, 1944 to the late Robert and Doris (Sochier) Stearns, Arlene grew up in the Windham area with her sisters Alice, Sally and Susan. She is a graduate of Windham High Class of ‘62.
Arlene married the late Kenneth B. Thompson September 19, 1964. Together they settled in Coventry, where they raised their two children, Keith and Jennifer and created 30 years of memories celebrating life, traveling, camping, and lots of family gatherings and activities at Coventry Lake.
Arlene had a variety of occupations throughout her life. Teacher’s aide, insurance agent and receptionist/Administrative Assistant at the UCONN Health Department to name a few. She retired from UCONN in 2010.
Arlene has been very active with the 1st United Methodist Church for over 55 years. She has been on just about every committee and volunteered for almost every event. Some highlights include Easter Sunrise breakfast, United Methodist Women, Holiday Bazaar, Stephen Ministries, Choir and Youth Group Leader. She was the church receptionist for a couple of years as well.
Arlene is survived by her son, Keith and his wife, Terri, of Burlington, VT. Her daughter, Jennifer and her husband, Gene, of New Britain, CT. Grandchildren include Richard, Jesica, Caitlin, Arlonna, and Braedon. Her sister, Sally (Stearns) French and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held Sunday, September 28th from 2pm to 4pm at Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St., Willimantic, CT. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, October 4, 2025 at 10:30 at the Old Willimantic Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will take place On Saturday, October 4, 2025 at 11:00am at the 1st United Methodist Church, 29 Puddin Ln., Mansfield Center, CT.
