Arlene Barbara Winzer, affectionately known as "Sweetie" to her family and friends, passed away peacefully on February 8, 2025 in Yorktown, Virginia at the age of 79. Born on September 19, 1945 in Rockville Centre, New York, Arlene lived a life filled with love, dedication, and warmth.
Arlene was well educated, holding an Associate Degree in Nursing, a Bachelor Degree in Psychology, and a Master Degree in Public Administration. Arlene devoted her career to caring for others as a Registered Nurse in many locations around the United States, a role in which she touched countless lives with her compassion and skill. She found joy in tending to her beloved house plants, and her home was always filled with the lively energy of puppies, whom she adored and cared for through dog sitting.
A true love of Arlene's was music, singing in the choir at St. Jerome Catholic Church where she made many friends. Family was the cornerstone of Arlene's life. She cherished every moment spent with her loved ones, whether it was during family gatherings or quiet times together. She took great pleasure in rearranging and cleaning, always having a beautiful home.
Arlene was preceded in death by her parents, William and Estelle Eiser. She is survived by her devoted husband of nearly 55 years, Colonel Dale Winzer, USAF (Retired), who stood by her side through their 27 year Air Force career and life's many adventures. She leaves behind her loving son, Christopher Winzer, and his wife Leah; her grandson, Andrew Winzer; and her precious great-granddaughter, Charlotte Winzer. Arlene is also survived by her brothers-in-law, Jimmy Winzer and Glenn Winzer (Jo-Anne); her nephew Bryan Winzer (Stephanie); her niece Sarah Strongoski (Jared), and her cousins Lloyd (Julie), Janet, and Lois.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 25, 2025 from 5-7pm with a celebration of her life to follow at 7pm at Altmeyer Funeral Home-Denbigh Chapel, 12893 Jefferson Ave.,
Newport News, VA. A mass to honor Arlene's life will be held at 11am on Wednesday, February 26, 2025 at St. Jerome Catholic Church, 116 Denbigh Blvd,
Newport News, VA.
