New Castle, UT - Arlis Jean Whitmore, age 90, passed away on July 4, 2025, at home in Newcastle, Utah of heart failure. She was born January 17, 1935, in Long Beach, California and continued to live in that same area until she graduated from David Starr Jordan High School. She attended Brigham Young University after graduation.
Arlis lived in Olympia, WA for a short time, as well as Kaysville, UT. She raised her family in Orange County, CA.
Arlis enjoyed crocheting and has gifted many treasured Afghans to family and friends. She also played the piano and was an organist at church for many years. She loved playing board/table games and had an uncanny knack for winning at Quirke. Later in life she could be found sitting in her recliner solving word puzzles or reading with a cat sprawled across her lap.
Arlis was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She loved people for who they were. She always had a listening ear and supportive words of encouragement. She had a lifelong habit of praying, studying her scriptures and listening to General Conference talks each day up until the very end. She had a love for the Savior and freely shared that love with all around her. She was quiet but when she had something to contribute, it was full of wisdom. All her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren knew that she loved them deeply.
Arlis is survived by her three children: Jay (Fran) Whitmore, Chrystal Whitmore and Drew (Marie) Whitmore; 5 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren, with one great-great-grandchild on the way.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, July 26, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Ridge View Ward Chapel, located at 820 North Valley View Drive, St George, UT 84770. Interment will follow at the Veyo Cemetery, 334 Chad Ranch Road, Veyo, Utah. Livestream
