Arloa Mae was the 8th child of William and Matilda (Muyskens) Korver. She was raised on a farm near Carnes. She attended country school through the 6th grade, went to Le Mars Public Schools for Jr. High, then attended the Northwestern Academy and later Northwestern Jr. College where she received her teaching degree. She taught Kindergarten in Sioux Center, IA for two years, and then in Brookings, SD for three years. She met the love her life while attending Northwestern, and they were married August 10, 1960. Their first home was in Brookings while Gary finished his degree. They then moved to Manchester, IA where they welcomed their first child, Ruth. A year later they moved to Sheldon, IA briefly and then settled in Sioux Center, where they welcomed their second daughter, Renae. Scott joined the family four years later.

She loved being a stay-at-home Mom, and was always a teacher at heart. She worked hand in hand with Gary at Arlo Farms (named after her before they were married). She managed the “east side” of the yard; while Gary managed the “west side”. She answered many phone calls, went on many trips, and helped with a lot of paper work. Arloa also loved organizing the church library, adult Sunday School programs, and reading many non-fiction books and biographies.

She was her children’s cheerleader, encourager, teacher, and most importantly, their prayer warrior. She always looked at the uniqueness of each individual child, grandchild, and great-grandchild – enjoying each of them for who God made them to be. Her greatest joy was spending time with the entire family.

For many years she assisted in the kindergarten classrooms at Kinsey Elementary – helping the kids learn their colors, letters, numbers, and words. The children brought her so much happiness and purpose in life.

She loved telling others about Jesus and wasn’t afraid to share her faith with anyone. She was so ready to meet Jesus; one of her final statements to her family was, “I know Jesus; and Jesus knows me!”

Arloa is survived by three children and their spouses, Ruth & Al Vermeer, of Rock Valley; Renae & Terry Schuiteman, of Sioux Center; Scott & Sally (Dykshorn) Te Stroete, of Sioux Center; twelve grandchildren, Blake Vermeer, Sara (Alex) Black, Jana Vermeer; Maria (Michael) Gallagher, Rachel (Joe) Kooiker, Julie (Blake) Boone, Emily Schuiteman (fiancé Lane Hettinga), Erica Schuiteman, Amy Schuiteman; Katie Te Stroete, Kyle Te Stroete, and Brooke Te Stroete; and nine great-grandchildren (with two more on the way); one sister, Gladys (Dave) Vander Berg, sister-in-law Frances Korver, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband and six siblings.
