Arlon Dale Thompson, passed away surrounded by his family on October 29, 2025, in Latch, Texas, at the age of 73. Born on September 25, 1952, in Upshur County, Texas to T.A. and Francis Thompson.
Dale enjoyed spending time in his shop where he was a local mechanic. He spent over 30 years in the automotive industry where he met many lifelong friends. Later on in life Dale became a proud, dedicated truck driver where he spent many years on the open road. To his fellow drivers, he answered to “Drag Cat,” a name spoken with respect by those who knew him.
After retirement Dale found joy in life’s simple pleasures by fishing on the lake, sitting on the porch with his dogs, and bird watching. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren filled his heart with love and his days with smiles.
He is survived by his daughter Stacy and Jimmy Jackson, son Alan and Amber Thompson, sisters Margie (Wayne) Buchanan, and Beverly (Charlie) Bouknight, and special friend Nancy Thompson all of Latch, Texas. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Denton (Kaley) Jackson, Hali (Rans) Jackson, Allison (Jordan) Banks, Megan Stokes, Bryce Thompson, Brynlee Thompson, and 7 great-grandchildren.
Dale was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Arlon and Francis Donelle, and his three brothers Danny, Randall, and Donald Thompson.
Pallbearers will be Denton Jackson, Bryce Thompson, Bobby Buchanan, Doug Gore, Rans Mullins, and Bernie Cox.
Visitation will be Monday, November 3, 2025 from 10 AM - 11 AM at Croley Funeral Home in Gilmer, Graveside services will follow at Hopewell Cemetery.
