Funeral Services for Jeanne Elizabeth Johnson, 90, of Gilmer, Texas, will be held at 2:00 pm, Wednesday, November 5, 2025, at McWhorter Funeral Home with Brother Mike Kessler officiating. Interment to follow at Oak Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at 1:00 pm prior to the service.
Jeanne was born on May 13, 1935, in Simpsonville, Texas, to Don L. and Bernice Richards Spencer, and she passed from this life on November 2, 2025.
Jeanne married James Dwight Johnson on May 30, 1952, and they were married for 69 years before he passed in 2022. She was a secretary at Gilmer High School for 35 years before her retirement. As a faithful member of First Baptist Church, she sang in the choir, taught Sunday School for many years, and later played the piano for her Sunday School class. She enjoyed quilting and was a member of the Piece Makers Quilt Club. Most importantly, she was Memaw, and she loved her family with all of her heart.
Those left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Marcia Fielden and her husband, Mike, Amy McWhorter and her husband, John; brothers, Mike Spencer (Carol) and Larry Spencer (Carol); sister-in-law, Merrilyn Spencer; grandchildren, James Fielden (Sarah), Rachael Thurmond (Fritz), Colin Efurd (Brantly), Riley Coleman (Samantha), and Kaylin McWhorter; great grandchildren, Keaton Fielden, Pierce Thurmond (Macaul), Tyson Fielden, Mary Thurmond, Kynna Rhoden, Nolan Fielden, Emmy Thurmond, Jaycin Fielden, Tate Efurd, and Blaine Efurd; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James Johnson; and her brother, Kenneth Spencer.
Pallbearers will be James Fielden, Riley Coleman, Dr. Fritz Thurmond, and Brantly Efurd.
