Armando Leyvas Gutierrez Sr., 70, passed away peacefully in the comfort of his own home with family by his side on Sunday, March 26, 2023.  Armando was born on July 4, 1952, in Tucson, Arizona, the son of Jesus Angel Gutierrez, Sr. and Armida Hernandez Leyvas.  He graduated from Tucson High School in 1970, he was an outstanding baseball player and even competed for the State Championship game his Senior year. He was offered a Baseball Scholarship from Arizona State University, but he decided that his faith in Jesus Christ was more important than baseball, so he attended the Latin American Bible Institute (LABI) in La Puenta, California.  While at LABI Armando toured Northern and Southern California ministering the gospel through music with the choir. During the summer months of Bible College, Armando toured the Western United States with an Ensemble Choir.

While attending LABI he met the love of his life and married Delsie Colleen Pena on September 7, 1974, in Ogden, Utah.  Armando and Delsie started their lives together in Tucson, Arizona. They returned to Ogden in 1975 and later built a home in Clinton, Utah where they resided for 33 years until moving to their current residence in Syracuse, Utah.

Armando was a member of the Zion Spanish Assembly of God Church in Ogden, Utah. He was very faithful in his service to the Lord by teaching Sunday School, Royal Rangers, Choir Director, Men’s Ministry, and also held the position of Superintendent for his church. Armando and his wife ministered through music and blessed countless lives with their beautiful, anointed voices. In his later years, he attended Elevation Church in Clearfield, Utah with his children.

Armando worked at the Internal Revenue Service and Hill Air Force Base as a Civil Service employee for thirty-nine years and retired in 2015. While at Hill Air Force Base, he was able to work his way up to supervisor positions in Air Freight and the Paint Shop. He was known as a supervisor with great integrity and a man with strong convictions in his faith.

Armando enjoyed coaching and attending his kids' and grandchildren’s sporting events, dance recitals, and all the family outings they did together. He could always be counted on to be at every event and be their greatest coach and motivator.

In Armando’s free time he enjoyed bowling, golfing, and playing fantasy football.  Armando has the most seasons as the top champion in their family fantasy football league and getting his name on the League’s trophy called “The Trofeo”. He also enjoyed spending countless hours watching many sporting events on TV and in person.

Armando was very quiet and reserved but when he spoke his words were spoken with great wisdom and strength.

Armando is survived by his children, Armando L. Gutierrez Jr. (Kristie) of Syracuse, Utah; Damien Gutierrez (Amber) of Syracuse, Utah; Jeanene Sanchez (Mario) of Syracuse, Utah; Mother, Armida Hernandez Leyvas of Tucson, Arizona; sister, Margie Gutierrez of Tucson, Arizona; brother, Jesus Angel Gutierrez Jr (Lydia) of Uintah, Utah; 11 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
