James Rufus (JR) Armstrong was born October 6th, 1935, in Memphis, TN. He went to be with the Lord on January 10,2026 at the age of 90. JR was the loving husband of Ruth Joy Horne Armstrong for 73 years. They married on the 4th of January in 1953.

JR worked for Charles Reed Buick for 18 years and was the leading salesman for many years. He moved to Bolivar, Tennessee in 1972 when he purchased Bolivar Ford Motor Company. He was an established member of Germantown Baptist Church and former member of Bolivar First Baptist Church. He attended Jack Knox SS class.

JR was a Jaycee in Memphis, and a member of Bolivar Rotary Club. He was honored by his peers as a Paul Harris Fellow.

JR is survived by his wife, Ruth Joy Horne Armstrong of Germantown, a son David Rufus Armstrong and wife Jianling, and a son Steven Wayne Armstrong and wife Melissa Bolton Armstrong.

JR is also survived by two grandsons, Michael Armstrong (Amanda) of Savannah and Benjamin Armstrong of Memphis. Two granddaughters, Robyn Mackenzie Mathis of Bartlett and Taylor Mathis Meek (Lee Meek of Brighton,Tennessee. Three great grandchildren, Marissa Brooke Watson, Wyatt Lee Meek, and Kate Riley Meek. One nephew, Richard Armstrong (Laura).

JR is preceded in death by his parents Chester Rufus Armstrong and Corryne Wood Armstrong and also by his step-mother Louise Armstrong, his brother, Bobbie Armstrong, step brother, Edwin Johnson of Higdon, Arkansas, and step sister Joann Russell.

In lieu of flowers the family ask donations be made to St Jude Research Hospital or a charity of your choice.
