Arnold Lee Hunt, Jr., age 88, of Grass Lake, Michigan, passed away peacefully on September 17, 2025. He was born on February 3, 1937, in New Kensington, Pennsylvania, to the late Arnold Lee Hunt, Sr. and Meryl Madaline Hunt (née Kuhlman).
On September 29, 1979, Arnold married the love of his life, Sally Louise Hunt (formerly Callaway) in Oakland, California. They shared 46 years together, making their home in California and later in Houma, Louisiana, before most recently residing in Grass Lake, Michigan.
Arnold is survived by his wife, Sally; his children, Ryan L. Hunt and wife Erica (née Fanguy) Hunt of Chicago, with grandchildren Owen and Shay; Daniel L. Hunt of Ann Arbor, MI, with grandchildren Sylvia of Rochester, NY, and Tobias of Sitka, AK; and Bill Hunt and wife Patti Hunt of Twain Harte, CA. He is also survived by his sister, Elaine Miles of San Leandro, CA; nieces, Jennifer Lopez Cano of San Leandro, CA, and Samantha Lopez of Hayward, CA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his son David Lee Hunt of California, and his cousin Richard Welsh of Delaware, OH.
After graduating high school in Arnold, Pennsylvania, where he excelled in athletics and track, Arnold enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1956. He proudly graduated from Air Controlman's School and honorably served until his discharge in 1960. Following his military service, Arnold embarked on a 30-year career with the Federal Aviation Administration, serving as an air traffic control tower manager in Leesburg, VA; Charleston, WV; Oakland, CA; New Orleans, LA; and Houma, LA. He retired from the F.A.A. in 1990, but his work ethic carried him into a second 20-year career at the Bayou Black Recreation Center in Houma.
Arnold lived a life of dedication and service. An Eagle Scout himself, he later became a Boy Scout troop leader for his eldest son. He loved the outdoors including hiking, camping, boating, and fishing, and was never afraid to try new things, even learning to play soccer in his 50s after years of coaching his youngest son's teams. He also enjoyed traveling and was an active participant in the Mardi Gras traditions of Louisiana. Above all, Arnold cherished his family, speaking often and with great pride about the lives and accomplishments of his grandchildren and nieces.
Honoring his wishes, cremation has taken place. The family plans to hold services at a later date at Greenwood Memorial Park in Lower Burrell, Pennsylvania, where his parents are laid to rest.
