Arnold A. VanHorn, age 83, of Old Washington, Ohio, passed away Wednesday, January 7, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was born January 12, 1942, in Wildcat Hollow, Corning, the son of the late Addison VanHorn and Ada (Latta) VanHorn.
Arnold proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, enlisting at the age of 17. During his service, he was stationed in Wyoming and at Tulle, Greenland.
Following his military service, Arnold embarked on a distinguished 50 year career in law enforcement. Starting his career, he served the State of Ohio as a game Protector at Salt Fork State Park for 9 years before he moved his career for the final 41 years to the Guernsey County Sherriff’s Office and the Guernsey County Prosecutors’ Office.
Arnold earned a Bachelor of General Studies from Ohio University with a law enforcement’s certificate.
He devoted 45 years of his life to ministry, serving faithfully at Fairview Holiness Mission until his retirement. He was known for his unwavering commitment and compassion for others.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Myra Sue (Embrey) Van Horn; his sisters, Elma Jean Coey, Mary Christie Boso; his brother, Raymond VanHorn; and his brothers- in- law, Ned Gohring, Gib Eing, Jim Boso, Bob Coey, and Sunny Swank.
He is survived by his two daughters, Donna (Dan) Bentley, and Diana Lynn Van Horn; his brother, Renald “Jerry” VanHorn; his sisters, Helen Swank, Delores Eing, and Sally Gohring; grandchildren Caleb Bentley, Joshua (Tiffany) Bentley, Jarrod Shepard, and Jade (John) Shepard Lafferty; and great- grandchildren, Lily Bentley, Lilli Dyer, Oliver Johnson, and Brayden Melton.
Visitation will be held Saturday, January 10, 2025, from 11 AM- 2PM at Thorn- Black Funeral Home in Cambridge with the service starting at 2 PM. Burial will take place on Monday, January 12, 2026, at 1PM at Dew Cemetery, near Glouster.
At the end of his life, Arnold was surrounded by loving supportive caregivers Cindy Smith, Aleigha Melton, and many compassionate individuals at CountryView Assisted Living.
Arnold was a true believer that the most important things in life were God, family, and country — a legacy that will be remembered by all who knew him.
