JUDITH ALENE
CALLAHAN ZELAZNY
December 22, 1939 - February 19, 2026
Judy Zelazny passed away peacefully on February 19, 2026.
Judy was born in New Haven, CT, to Charles and Alene Wills Callahan. At a young age, she moved with her parents to Columbus, Ohio, where her father had accepted a position as a Professor of Law at Ohio State University. Judy graduated from Upper Arlington High School, attended Duke University, and completed her undergraduate studies at Ohio University, where she was a member of the Pi Beta Phi sorority.
She was employed by the Social Security Administration in Cleveland, Ohio, and at the Administration's headquarters in Baltimore, MD. While living in Baltimore, she earned a Master of Liberal Arts degree at Johns Hopkins University. She married fellow government employee and science fiction writer Roger Zelazny.
After leaving government service in 1975, the couple moved with their three-year-old son to Santa Fe, New Mexico, where two more children were born. In 1985, Judy received a Juris Doctor degree from the School of Law at the University of New Mexico and subsequently worked at the New Mexico Court of Appeals and the New Mexico Supreme Court.
Predeceased by her parents, husband, and son Trent, Judy is survived by her son Devin, daughter Shannon, and grandson Corwin, all of Santa Fe, New Mexico; her sister, Louesa Foster, and brother, Michael Griffith, both of Columbus, Ohio; as well as nieces and nephews in Columbus; Hartford, CT; and Chicago.
