JONATHAN ZELAZNY Obituary

JONATHAN "TRENT" ZELAZNY
November 28, 1976 - November 28, 2024
Trent Zelazny left this world on November 28, 2024, his 48th birthday, due to acute liver failure. He was the son of the late science fiction writer Roger Zelazny and his wife Judith Zelazny.
Born and raised in Santa Fe, Trent's creative soul and free spirit found many outlets for expression. He played around town for many years in two primary bands, Monkeyshines and The Floors. As a film aficionado, he worked at Video Library for well over a decade. Gifted at drawing, he also spent some time working for the company Flamdoodle Animation.
In 1995, he married Caiti Case who gave birth to their only son, Corwin. They later divorced, and in the late 2000's Trent moved to Florida where he encountered a tragic personal loss. As a result, alcoholism led him down a sad and broken path, which was almost the end of the road for him, but, fortunately, fate intervened. He went to rehab, got and remained sober, and channeled his trauma into martial arts and writing.
Though he had been writing since he was a child, it now became his main passion. When he wasn't working his part-time day job at the Jean Cocteau Cinema, he was pumping out stories in the genres of horror, crime, noir, and post-apocalyptic fiction. Some of his best sellers were Too Late to Call Texas, Voiceless, and To Sleep Gently.
Trent became a prominent voice for people struggling with depression and post traumatic stress disorder. He never shied away from talking about the difficult and unpleasant side of life, and many people thanked him for it.
He was knocked down many times in life, but he always got back up again. An amazingly generous person, Trent always carried with him a smile and a goofy sense of humor. He was one-of-a-kind who will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him.
He leaves behind his beloved son, Corwin Zelazny, older brother Devin Zelazny, and little sister Shannon Zelazny.

Planted Trees

December 15, 2024

With great sadness I read the news of Trent´s passing. I was one of Trent´s teachers at Rio Grande School in Santa Fe. He was probably about seven years old and such a delight! So creative and so
Well-loved. I have tried to reach out to his siblings with no luck. I have a great photo I would like for them to have. Of all the hundreds of students I have known over the years, I could never forget this one. My deepest sympathies, Judith Lokenvitz
