Arthur G. Broadhurst

Arthur George Broadhurst, aged 89, of Vero Beach, Florida died after a short hospitalization on August 15, 2025.

Art was born in Norwich, Connecticut on July 3, 1936. He grew up in Washington, D.C., moving to Falls Church, Virginia in 1953, where he graduated from Falls Church High School in 1955.

Subsequently he graduated from the University of Richmond (B.A.) and from Colgate Rochester Divinity School (B.D. M. Min.). After receiving his theological degree he was ordained as a minister of the United Church of Christ. While serving as a student minister at the Gaines Congregational Church in Gaines, New York he met and subsequently married Carol Sue Hamilton in 1963. Sue Hamilton was born in Fort Lauderdale, Florida in 1944 to Edward and Marguerite Hamilton, while her father was in the U.S. Army Air Corp stationed in Boca Raton, Florida.

Shortly after their marriage Art and Sue moved to New Hampshire, where Art was chaplain and chairman of the religion department of Cardigan Mountain School, a boarding school in Canaan, New Hampshire. He also served as administrator at Cherry Lawn School in Darien, Connecticut; Lake Ridge Academy in Ohio; Trinity School in New York City; Saint Edward's School in Vero Beach, Florida; and Saint Andrew's School in Boca Raton, Florida.

In 1984 Art was appointed Director of Business Services for the National Association of Independent Schools based in Boston. In conjunction with the National Association of Independent Schools Art was involved in the creation of an insurance company owned by schools and colleges, served as one of the founding directors, became senior vice president of the operating company United Educators Insurance, based in Chevy Chase, Maryland, and ultimately became president and chief executive officer of the associated reinsurance company, School College and University Underwriters, Ltd., based in Bermuda, from which he retired in 2001.

Art is survived by his wife, Sue, and three daughters: Sandra Heen (Ron) of Vero Beach, FL; Kimberly Campana (Andrew) of Wayland, MA; and Karin Broadhurst of Ashland, MA. He had 5 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren: Ashley Gilliam (Eric) and their children Natalie and Alexander of Vero Beach, FL; Randy Heen (Carly) and their children Everett and Elliot of Sebastian, FL; Nicolas Campana of Washington, DC; Zachary Campana of Newton, MA, and Kolbi Broadhurst of Ashland, MA.
