Arthur Cady Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by South Carolina Cremation Society - West Columbia on Dec. 5, 2025.
Arthur Randall Cady, born on January 8, 1947, in Buffalo, NY, was sent to his eternal home on December 1, 2025, in Lexington, SC, due to a lengthy military related illness. He was the beloved husband of Maryann (Schwab) Cady of 56 years.

Randy (Art), as he was known, was a shining light in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him. His journey on this earth was one marked by love, compassion, loyalty, steadfast character, a man of quiet strength, and unwavering faith in God. His passing has left a void in the hearts of his family, friends, and many more whose lives were touched by him. We ask that you remember him not for the way his life ended, but for the way it was lived, and for the profound impact it had on the lives of those who had the pleasure of knowing him. Randy's life was a testament to faith lived out daily. Randy served in the Marine Corps from 1966 – 1970 during the Vietnam era. He rarely talked about that time served with his family. As many veterans did, they closed off that part of their life.

When he returned home after leaving the military, he married the "girl down the road", Maryann. They built their home in Delevan, NY, where they lived for 35 years. They shared a life of much love and many challenges which they always worked through during those 56 years.

Randy retired from Motorola and moved to South Carolina, where he and Maryann had visited 3 of her sisters quite often and enjoying lots of sunshine and no snow.

As far as activities and passions, Randy was very involved. An active member of Blessed Sacrament Church (NY) and Christian Life Church (SC), an avid hunter and taught Hunter and Shooter Education, fan of target shooting, co-founded a BB Gun team that won state and went to nationals, a lifelong love for anything with wheels – cars, drag racers or anything fast, a cameraman at Holland Speedway, loved working on cars and rebuilding engines, very active with the SC Marine Corps League where he was a Commandant for one year, Toys for Tots, Marine Corps Mud Run, Marine Corps League repairing and donating bicycles for kids in need. Randy was never one to sit around. He was always serving his community.

Randy is survived by his siblings: John (Bonnie) Cady, Peg (Lou, deceased) Germann, Mike (Patricia) Cady, Dottie Kruczynski, and brother-in-law Joe (Lori) Schwab; and sisters-in-laws, Bev (Marion) Gunter, Darla (Gary, deceased) Schwab, Joanne (Robin) Gilbert, Bonnie (Danny) Howard, and Karen Feigh.

He was the proud father of three daughters: Michelle (Jeff) Sindy of Loudon, TN; Melissa (Doug) Simar of Irmo, SC; and Jennifer (Eric) Kilgore of Evans, GA, as well as his cherished grandchildren-Gabriel Simar, Lily Simar (deceased), Sarah Sindy, Alex Kilgore, and Sophie Kilgore.

He is reunited in glory with his family who passed before him: his parents, Arthur J. "Jack" and Dorothy (Radder) Cady, and his sister, Marie (Cady) Niles.

A Military Committal with Honors Service will be held on Friday, December 19, 2025, at 11:00 am at Fort Jackson National Cemetery, 4170 Percival Road, Columbia, SC 29229.

The Celebration of Life service to honor the life of Randy Cady will be held on Sunday, December 21, 2025 at 3:00 pm at Christian Life Church, 2700 Bush River Road, Columbia, SC 29210. For those out of town, you will be able to watch a Facebook live of the celebration of life.

My family and I were honored to get to know Randy and Maryann during his time at Colonial Gardens. We are thankful for Randy's service to our country. Maryann was such a kind caregiver and the love she and Randy share was evident. We send our deepest condolences and prayers. Rena Duvall (sister of Jackie Boylston)
