Arthur Cary Canaday

Arthur Cary Canaday, 90, passed away on Wednesday, March 1, 2023, at TerraBella, in Hillsborough, North Carolina. Though he grew up in Jacksonville, Florida, he was born in Queens, New York, to the late Nicholas Canaday and Nadine Mueller Canaday. In addition to his parents, Mr. Canaday is predeceased by his wife, Marjorie Canaday; brother, Nicholas Canaday; and sister, Carol Ann "Bunny" Brown.
Art is survived by his two sons, Jeffrey Allen Canaday and Clifford Alden Canaday; his two daughters, Lynn Canaday Black and Karen Clough Canaday; and his five grandchildren, Jason Cody Canaday, Lindsey Marye Canaday, Kevin Edward Canaday, Douglas Lyndon Black, and Dylan Arthur Black.
Art is remembered for his unfailing optimism and patience. He touched many lives with his career in law and politics, as a federal judge, a lawyer, and counsel to a governor of Florida. Art loved painting, classical music, and spending time with his family in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina.
Art's family will hold a private service for him at his home in Blowing Rock, North Carolina, in June of 2023. In lieu of flowers, Art's family asks his friends and family to remember him by making a donation to Habitat for Humanity, https://www.habitat.org/.
