Arthur Gates Obituary
A proud graduate of 33rd Avenue High School, Arthur later pursued technical training in welding, earning a certificate that reflected his commitment to learning and craftsmanship. His professional life was defined by nearly four decades of service with CenterPoint Gas Company. As a serviceman for more than 39 years, Arthur received numerous awards and recognitions for his outstanding work-testaments to his reliability, skill, and strong work ethic. He was respected by colleagues for his quiet strength and steadfast dedication.
Arthur's devotion extended beyond his career into his spiritual life. A faithful member of Maranatha Seventh-day Adventist Church in Gulfport, he served as head deacon for many years. His presence was steady and humble, leading by example and inspiring others through actions rather than words. His soft-spoken nature and encouraging spirit left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
Outside of work and church, Arthur found joy in simple yet meaningful activities. He loved jogging, walking, riding bicycles, and fixing things. Often seen pedaling through the neighborhood or lending a helping hand, these hobbies reflected his active lifestyle and generous heart.
Arthur is survived by his beloved wife, Serene Gates; sons Roderick Gates, Keith Gates (wife Kimberly Gates), Steven Gates (wife Stephanie Campbell-Gates), and Shawn Gates; daughter Sekayi Murray-Brown (husband Michael Brown); sister Elizabeth Duncan (husband Jimmy Duncan); brother Paul Gates; and many other relatives and friends who cherished him deeply.
He was preceded in death by his father, Amile Gates; his mother, Dessie Gates; sisters Rhoda Gates and Betty Gates; and a brother who preceded him in death Amile Gates.
Arthur Lucas Gates leaves behind a legacy of integrity, perseverance, and quiet kindness. May his memory bring comfort to those who loved him and continue to inspire all whose lives he touched.
