Arthur "Artie" Scott Hobbs, 71, a devoted husband, father, granddaddy, and brother, was peacefully welcomed into the loving arms of Jesus on Monday, June 16, 2025, surrounded by his family.
Artie was born on July 16, 1953, in Norfolk, VA, to the late William H. Hobbs III and Mable G. Hobbs. He graduated from Indian River High School in 1972 and went on to tour the U.S. as a drummer and backup singer with the Side Show Band, during which time he met the love of his life, Susan C. Hobbs. The two married in 1974 and built their life together in Chesapeake, VA.
Artie dedicated 43 years of service to Metro Machine (now General Dynamics), where he worked as a Machinist and Lead Man. Even while working full-time, his passion for music never faded-he continued to play drums throughout his life, often filling the room with rhythm and joy.
Despite his loud presence on stage, Artie was known offstage as soft-spoken, quick-witted, and full of gentle humor. He had a deep love for coin collecting, Lionel trains, old Westerns, and metal detecting with his brothers-in-law. But above all, Artie was known for his boundless love of Christmas. For the Hobbs family, the Christmas season began in October and was filled with baking, decorating, music, movies, laughter, and giving. Artie made sure his family never forgot the true meaning of the season-the birth of his Savior, Jesus Christ.
Artie was a man of love, laughter, compassion, and sacrifice. He gave selflessly to anyone in need and left a lasting impact on all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, William "Billy" Hobbs.
Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of 51 years, Susan Hobbs; his son, William S. Hobbs (Rebecca); his daughter, Stephanie M. Robison (David); and his cherished grandchildren, Zoey Hobbs and Landen Hobbs. He is also survived by his brothers, Harry Hobbs and Jack Hobbs; many loving in-laws, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and extended family.
Artie's joyful spirit, generous heart, and steadfast faith will be missed beyond measure.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, June 22, 2025, from 3-5 PM, at Graham Funeral Home, 1112 Kempsville Road, Chesapeake, VA. The funeral service will be held the following day June 23, at 11 AM, followed by a catered reception in the reception hall. Burial will follow the reception at Chesapeake Memorial Gardens, 524 Cedar Road, Chesapeake. To leave a condolence to the family or watch the service online please visit Grahamfuneralhome.com.
