Arthur Edward Horton, 85, of Christopher, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 25, 2025, at his home.
Arthur was born on January 28, 1940, in Royalton to Morris Horton and Wanda (Sadler) Doerr. He was united in marriage to Glenda Lee Short on June 4th, 1960, in Carterville. They've shared almost 65 years of marriage together.
Arthur was a 1958 graduate of Herrin High School. He joined the workforce at the age of 15 and worked at Illinois Café in Herrin for 20 years. Arthur later went on to work for the Zeigler-Royalton school district for 35 years as the transportation director and custodian.
Arthur was a jack-of-all-trades and could do anything and everything. He enjoyed cooking, electrical work, keeping a manicured lawn, and fixing things. He was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and enjoyed keeping up with his favorite Phillies player, Kyle Schwarber. In his younger years, Arthur enjoyed building and flying glider planes.
Arthur is survived by his wife, Glenda Horton of Christopher; two children, James (Felicia) Horton of Christopher and Debbie (Thomas) Baine of Valier; six grandchildren, Chalon Horton of Christopher, Jaramie Pinkham of Christopher, Heather (Michael) Abercrombie of Marion, Gene (Sarah) Furlow of Coello, Tommy Baine of Valier, and Christina (Jason) Russell of Valier; 11 great-grandchildren, Robin Horton, Sheldon Horton, Aydon Horton, Mia Moses, Catrina Russell, Caleb Furlow, Mackensie Baine, Owen Baine, Tori Furlow, Riley Furlow, Ivy Furlow, and one on the way; sister-in-law, Ruby (Louie) Maldonado of Zeigler.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m., Monday, March 31, 2025, at Vantrease-Pyle Funeral Home in Royalton with Pastor Rich Bradford officiating. Interment will follow at Miners Cemetery in Royalton.
Visitation will be 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Monday, at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Mulkeytown Baptist Church. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home the day of the service.
