Arthur W. Johnson Jr. passed away peacefully in his home on September 27, 2025 with his loving wife and family at his side at the age of 89. Born to Arthur and Jennie (Bullis) Johnson in Brooklyn, NY on May 5, 1936.
Arthur was an aerospace enthusiast, he proudly served in the United States Air Force, specializing in radar. After he left the service, Arthur worked for the Federal Aviation Administration where he continued to share his expertise and was a highly sought after radar technician and trainer. He also enjoyed serving as a volunteer fire fighter.
While Arthur was proud of his work, his proudest moment was marrying his wife of 63 years, Kay (Racht) Johnson. Arthur's love for Kay was infinite; he thought she set the moon and sun. They raised 3 daughters, Amanda, Gwendolyn and Susan while moving all over the United States for Arthur's work.
After retirement from the FAA, Arthur enjoyed his many hobbies such as locomotives, airplanes, following weather patterns, John Deere tractors, and tinkering with machinery or electronics. He could often be found with a flashlight and screwdriver fixing something.
Arthur is survived by his wife, Kay (Racht) Johnson; three daughters: Amanda M. Johnson (Bob Buli) of South Canaan, PA, Gwendolyn Keenan of Connecticut, and Susan L. Curtis (Steve Curtis) of South Canaan, PA. Also surviving are grandchildren: Andrea Mrowka (Nathaniel), Stephanie Laird (Michael), Michelle Mink Trestini (Daniel), Shanna Resetar (Chad), Alaina Lengner (Michael), Alexander Curtis and Nickolas Curtis; great-grandchildren Elijah, Serene, Braelynn, Paxton, Charlie, Emmiline, and Hannah; his brothers: Frank, Wayne, and Albert Johnson; brothers-in-law: William, Alfred, and Edwin Racht; sisters-in-law: Shirley (Racht) Clift, Alicia (Racht) Hawk, Phyllis (Racht) Krajkovich; as well as, a large extended family.
Arthur was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Jennie (Bullis) Johnson; a brother, Dwight Johnson, a sister, Vivian (Johnson) Peck; parents-in-law, Clifford and Theresa (Kellachow) Racht; brothers-in-law, Marvin Hawk, Robert Racht, Paul Krajkovich, and Wyland Clift; sisters-in-law, Janice (Calton) Johnson, Esther (Olver) Racht and Kathy (Mark) Racht; a niece, Janet Johnson; nephews, PJ Krajkovich, Wayne Johnson, Jr., David Racht; and a son-in-law Richard Keenan.
A Blessing Service led by Deacon Edward Kelly of St. Mary's Church, Waymart, will be held on Thursday, October 2nd at 10 AM with close family at the Howell Family Funeral Home, followed by burial at East Canaan Cemetery.
Family and friends may attend calling hours on Wednesday, October 1st, 2025 from 5-7 PM at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memoriam of Arthur W. Johnson Jr. to the Waymart Volunteer Fire Company, PO Box 186, Waymart, PA 18472.
