Barbara T. Barna, 95, of South Canaan, passed away peacefully with her daughter and granddaughter at her side, on Sunday, October 19, 2025 at Allied Hospice in Scranton. Her loving husband of 62 years, Theodore Barna preceded her in death on June 11, 2015. They were married in 1953.
Born October 2, 1930 in Olyphant, she was the daughter of the late John and Stephania (Smolley) Telowsky.
Barbara graduated with honors and the Service Award from Honesdale High School in the Class of 1948. Following graduation, she was employed at the Honesdale National Bank for 8 years. Barbara was a devoted member of St. Tikhon's Monastery Church in South Canaan where she coordinated the ethnic foods department with volunteers, by preparing and selling food at the annual Pilgrimage at St. Tikhon's Monastery each May for more than 25 years. Active with local volunteer work, Barbara and Ted delivered Meals on Wheels in Wayne County together for nearly four years.
Barbara is survived by her daughter, Susan Skoritowski of Scranton; her beloved granddaughter, Dr. Sara Skoritowski of Scranton; a sister, Lillian Kuhner of Lincoln, Nebraska; a son-in-law, Reid Dunlap and his wife Lynn of Florida; nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Jane Dunlap on October 27, 2008; a son-in-law, Alan Skoritowski; a brother, Joseph; and four sisters: Anna Zinsky, Mary Duda, Julia Zielinski, and Olga Telowsky.
In accordance with her wishes, funeral services will be private, and held at the convenience of the family.
Interment will be in St. Tikhon's Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Barbara's memory to Dessin Animal Shelter, 138 Miller Drive, Honesdale, PA 18431.
