Joseph Richard "Joe" Barna

Joseph Richard Barna, 68, went to be with his Heavenly Father on June 10, 2025.

Born on February 17, 1957, he was the son of the late Joseph A. and Vera (Trampenau) Barna. Joe was a lifelong Erie resident.

He was a graduate of Tech Memorial High School held state track records. He also a Gannon University alumni with a bachelor's degree in business. He was the chief loan officer at Marquette Savings Bank, and proprietor of Barna Construction. He was an entrepreneur at heart and had a passion for real estate investing.

Joe loved the Lord and played the drums at his church, First Assembly of God for many years. Hunting, fishing, and watching NASCAR (Dale #3) were a few of his favorite hobbies. He had a great sense of humor and could make anyone laugh. He enjoyed many other things, like watching baseball with his dad, aviation, and WW II history. In his later years, Joe's joy came from being Papa and he was so proud of his grandchildren. Joe was a great person to those who knew him and he will be deeply missed.

He is survived by his 3 children, Joseph W. Barna, Karli Barna Van Der Volgen (Jacob), and Jeffrey Barna. Joe is also survived by 4 grandchildren, Joseph D. Barna, Paisley, Cameron, and Grayson Van Der Volgen.

He was preceded in death by his parents, who he deeply missed.

Memorial proceedings will be held at First Alliance Church, 2939 Zimmerly Rd., Erie, PA 16506 later this month. All friends and family are welcome.
